Cayo Santa Maria

Cayo Santa Maria and Cayo Ensenachos, with Cayo Las Brujas, are located off the northern coast of Villa Clara province in the central part of the country, about 30 km from the mainland and separated from it by the so-called Bahia de Buenavista.

They are part of a group known cays (small islands) and the Horseshoe Keys over 500 islands scattered over an area of pristine and shallow waters with a larger area of over 1300 km2 and bounded to the north by the second coral reef planet.

In this paradise – until very time almost secret – is reached via a road built on a base of rocks deposited on the seabed. With a length of 48 Km from near the village of CAIBARIEN to Havana and 46 bridges designed to maintain the normal flow of water and marine life, not to cause damage to marine and terrestrial ecosystems, this road is a work of significant engineering (deserved Alcántara Bridge Award for Best Ibero-American Civil Works) and step through it becomes a pleasant experience for the visitor. Once in the Keys, visitors can choose between Las Brujas, Ensenachos and Santa Maria, each representing a different experience depending on their own characteristics:

1. Cayo Las Brujas: the first of these keys crossing the road, its coastline north is occupied by a magnificent beach 2 km long, its seabed are stunning and has the “Marina Gaviota Witches” and a center of Scuba instructors certified by ACUC International make this destination a perfect place for water sports including fishing and diving. In Cayo Las Brujas airport there is an operational aircraft of small and medium size.

2. The Cayo Ensenachos: the smaller (about 2 km2), has the best beaches in the area (Los Ensenachos and El Mégano), the waves are small and the sea has hues of green and blue. Here you can enjoy an almost absolute tranquility and the busiest time only find a few dozen people on the beach, the natural environment is almost virgin. The existence here of Hotel Royal Hideaway Ensenachos Resort & Spa, undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and luxurious in Cuba, I give this destination a stamp of exclusivity. Perfect for relaxing with a landscape of a postcard own beach paradise.

3. Havana: the last of the keys lined road that crosses over the waters of Bay Buenavista, also known as “The White Rose of the Jardines del Rey” is the largest of these cays – about 18 Km2 – and its shores are lined 10 Km of beaches best quality among which Perla Blanca, Las Caletas, Cannon and Four Punta, with cliffs backdrop that enhance its beauty. Here the waves on the beaches are greater than Ensenachos beaches are frequented by most tourists and recreational activities available are numerous.
